Basically camping is considered staying in a place where you are as close to being in the outdoors as possible for yourself. To most that’s in a tent to others its a tent trailer or an RV to still others it’s a rustic cabin. Camping is what you make of it, I highly recommend the tent at the minimum to keep the rain and bugs at bay. Check out the above resources if you need more info ask again.
My husband went on a camping trip recently just the two of us. It was alot of fun. You could plan alittle picnic somewhere. We went on a really nice hike with some pretty waterfalls. It was really romantic. we stopped at one of the water falls and had a little picnic there
Zipping sleeping bags together at night and cuddle up together to keep warm (among other things) is alot of fun
Just having fun together and being together can be romantic!
Some basics to bring:

Blow up mattress
Sleeping bags
Pillows
Food
Cooler
Camp stove
matches
Small propane tanks for the stove
Cooking utensils/eating utensils
Fire wood (unless you plan on finding it)
Extra clothes
Tarp
Rope
Hatchet
I have used a Fire-Spout for some years http://www.occuk.co.uk/outdoor
In the evening what could be better than looking into the dancing flames of a wood burning camp stove, there is something magical about it.

It also keeps those pesky bugs at bay.
