Please Advise, Should I Go on My Camping Trip or Not?
So me and a few friends are going on a camping trip we've been planning for awhile. The trip entails a 2 mile hike to the campsite and 2 days camping then the 2 mile hike back. The hike there is fairly difficult with the terrain and such, and with all our camping gear.
Just to give you some background about 8 months ago I got mononucleosis Really, really bad..I actually was in the hospital for it for 4 days. It took me a good 3 months to get over the mono part, but for the last 5 months I've been dealing with the residual flare-ups of the illness. When it's not "flaring" I feel pretty good and can do most things, but at random times it will flare up for 2-5 days or so, where I don't feel as sick as I did when I had mono but I get some of the same symptoms, like nausea, chills, fatigue etc...
Well, Just my luck that I'd been feeling great the last week until yesterday when I started feeling not okay again..And we are leaving tomorrow...
So my question is do I cancel or not? The people I'm going with are really excited and already spent a bunch of money on they're camping gear, requested the time off of work, etc....So they're never going to talk to me again if I cancel, but I don't want to go when I'm sick for obvious reasons. So should I go and hope it gets better, or Cancel...I have no idea what to do:(

If you’re not going to enjoy the trip just cancel
I’ve just got in from the hospital with my daughter fighting mono.
His advice was that the spleen can be very fragile and to do nothing to risk an episode.
If you have time contact your doctor for advice.
I’m not sure how long one needs to be very, very careful about damaging the spleen. You may be past that but if you are not then I would not risk it.
Good luck
Brian
Definitely not. If they aren’t going to talk to you after you cancel then screw them. Your health is more important than a camping trip. There will be plenty more opportunities in your life to go camping! Take care of yourself.
I think health is more important than camping.
Go get yourself some coconut oil capsules, its a great cure all for mono and will give you energy.
If your hike in is only 2 miles, in the worst terrain the longest it could take is 1 mile an hour and that’s a lot of hiking and climbing almost straight up, so the most it could be is a 2 hour hike, I doubt it will take you that long. If the terrain is moderate it may take 1 hour or less. So we are not talking about a lot of time on foot. When I go back packing in the mountains with a pack that weights between 21 to 26 lbs. the rule of hiking is hike 50 mins rest/pack off for ten mins. we do this all day long when hiking 8 to 13 miles in a day. So if your pack is heavier that 25 lbs and the terrain is mild to difficult take your time enjoy the scenery as you walk. take plenty of water and energizing snacks. Its only 2 miles. you’ll have the rest of the day in camp to sit back and relax. the fresh air and sunshine will do you good.
