Apparently they stopped making these when they switched to plastic. I did find a link to a company in Calif which makes BEAUTIFUL stainless steel canteens which they say are US military specs for use by military and civilians, but there is no purchase info for them. I wrote to the company directly, because I really want one, but no response so far. Its been a week. May try again.

@DebStep7 Forgot to mention the name of the website with the beautiful 304 surgical stainless steel canteens (1 quart capacity and made to be heated on an open flame or the hot surfaces of military vehicles!) It has a satin convex and mirror concave finish (for emergency signaling). NICE! I want one!!! Anyway, go to dhki and check out their canteen section. Its a com not an org, by the way.

I have been searching for something like this for a long time. All that seems to be available here in Ireland is Plastic or Aluminum Army type Bottles. I hate using Plastic as it imparts a horrible taste after awhile and the Aluminum I have heard accounts of it being a cause of Alzheimers, So Steel is more preferable. I have a conventional Steel 1 litre Flask that I sometimes carry on my Bicycle but it is Bulky. I hate those Bicycle Bottles in Plastic.

hey u in the military cuz my bro is and he has the same canteen as the plastic one u got and if it tastes bad thats weird cuz he puts all his water bottles in there that is all he drinks out of haha

They sell 1-liter stainless steel canteens in the U.S at any Bass Pro shop the only problem is the plastic cap ( It’s only a problem because i cook right with my canteen to sterilize water and the plastic can melt).

@envirosponsible 1reason it is made of pvc it is cheap and can be made fast then like everything in the military they take $50 each out of the tax money just like the $200 screwdrivers they need.

but I’ve heard that steel canteens have that white stuff in it.

PVC is a vinyl polymer. It’s health hazards are long term and include cancer, diabetes, genetic mutations, etc.

It’s a know human carcinogen so you denying it is just idiotic and irresponsible.

The genuine US military canteen is made out of PVC. Take care of it or not your drinking water is in direct contact with PVC.

You can use the canteen no problem for 10 years and then get cancer 30 years later. If you have no sense of self preservation then go ahead and poison yourself.

I agree, never buy a after market plastic canteen.
You didn’t say where & how much? Looks like a French design? The pouch looks like it’ll also hold a small cup on top of the canteen as well..

First of all, the USA government doesn’t care about their military. An example of this is how they gave them experimental anthrax vaccines when the anthrax threat was not there.
Secondly, It’s a KNOWN CANCERIGEN. This means that it helps the formation of cancer. Depending on your health habits and diet you’ll get cancer or not.
If you want to drink from something that ups your chances of getting cancer then go ahead but in my book that makes you an idiot.

You really should stop talking because most of what you are saying is either dumb or wrong.. Most water bottles are made out of polyethylene terephthalate (PETE), not PVC.
Aluminum canteens are also bad and have been linked to Alzheimer disease. This is why most aluminum bottles and cookware has a coating, many containing BPA.

Research before you say something stupid.

wow you make some great points and before i watched this i was a fan of the older plastic canteen but you make awesome points and i think ill get a metal canteen if i can find a bigger metal cantten i would be glad to send you one and see what you have to say about it. ps. im subing you

Why does it say “US” on it? The US WWII stainless canteen is the same size as the plastic one.

@Antunez99 It takes 20 years to get cancer, because it takes so long many things that are dangerous are being sold to you. The stainless canteens are not that expensive.
